Jr. Pack Pee Wee
-Jul 26 2010

Another local team, the Connecticut Junior Wolfpack, took first place in the Pee Wee (12 and under) division in the game of the day.

Matt Roberts scored the go-ahead goal for his team on a beautiful feed from teammate Chris Connolly with just eight seconds left in regulation.

“It was such a great play,” Wolfpack coach Anthony Giusto said. “Chris Connolly brought the puck wide and ... Matt Roberts, he came [off the bench], busted his butt from the side of ice, perfect spot, got the pass in the center and put it five-hole on the goalie.”

Giusto, who lives in Bristol, coaches the Wolfpack in the winter.

Though the team draws some players outside the region, Giusto said the squad consists mostly of kids from the central Connecticut area.

“It was great competition,” Giusto said. “It was good to see kids from all over the state compete in the tournament. ... It was nice to see kids all four corners of the state get together and play.”
