EJ Showcase |
-Jul 26 2010 |
This past weekend, the Junior A and B Wolfpack teams traveled to Marlboro, MA to play in the EJ Showcase. Both teams went missing some players from the actual rosters, but both teams showed how the Wolfpack program continues to compete hard against the best teams on the east coast.
The A team played in arguably the hardest bracket the A division had to offer. After jumping out to 2-0 and 4-2 leads against the very talented ECS Nine Hockey Club early Friday afternoon, the A team eventually lost 7-4. Later that evening the A team played another very difficult opponent in the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs, and although the game ended in a 5-2 score, it was much closer than the score reflects. Saturday afternoon the boys bounced back, and battled the HOA Hockey Club from Canada to the last minute before an open net goalie clinched the win for HOA. Overall the weekend showed that the Wolfpack faithful can expect a very talented and hard working team for this upcoming season. Missing 7 of its top players the Jr. A team competed well and have already received college contact on players for this upcoming season. Although their record was not outstandiung the coaching staff felt for mid July, and missing a good number of top players the results were positive.
The B team continued their winning ways by making it all the way to the semifinals before losing a heartbreaker. They started off the weekend by playing and winning 4-0 against the New Brunswick Prospects. Later that afternoon, they played the New England Huskies and beat them convincingly 6-0. Saturday, the B team faced what was expected to be their toughest challenge of the weekend, but handled it nicely and won a very tough game 5-4 over the eventual champions of the tournament, South Shore Kings. After winning their division, the team went onto play Sunday morning, and withstood the tough play of the Mass Maple Leafs and won their quarterfinal game 4-3. After this they ran into the New York Applecore, and even though the Wolfpack controlled the play most of the game, the Applecore edged them out 2-1. This ended the B team’s 10 game win streak from previous weekends as well.
“It was another great weekend showcasing the talent and determination of the kids that the Wolfpack organization as brought together. Even when the kids were down, they worked as hard as they could, and tried to get back into every game. I had a lot of positive feedback from college coaches and other recruiters there that even they are excited about the direction of our program. This weekend just makes this upcoming season even more exciting for me and our staff here,” stated head coach Chris Cerrella.
Next up for the Wolfpack, Training Camp!
